Wednesday, Aug 24th - Fortune Sound Club

Dom Kennedy, Jay Kin, District 36, Seko, Rico Uno, Marvel, and KutCorners packed the house for Fortune Sound Club’s Freshest 4th Year Anniversary. A night of bomb beats and dope rhymes connected by classic and new jams. The night started with District 36 adding a new polish to a range of samples, making songs like Alicia Key’s “Unthinkable” take on the flavour of a street battle. After a sick set of DJ’s and crowd favs, from the likes of Busta Rymes to Jay Z, Jay Kin conquered the stage. Sneakers and Video Games on hand, Jay Kin rocked his original Nintendo chain with beats and tracks to match. An already saturated, loud, hype crowd were next graced with the first Vancouver performance by West Coast Rapper Dom Kennedy. Kennedy did it big and left the audience begging for more, living up to his lyrical claim “the man with the most ain’t always in the front, so hit that west side and we’ll give ya what ya want.” All in all a night for hip hop heads true to lyrics, samples and an incessant need to vibe to the beat.

Big ups to HipHopCanada for their post on our opening spot for Raekwon a few nights ago. It was craaazy fun, the crowd was dope, and Rae killed it. Our homie DJ Seko definitely held it down aswell. All in all a decent night. Peep the write up and some pictures Fortune took below. 36.

We've gotten a lot of love from this song off our PAPER CUTS mixtape. This track was quite a process, we went through a few different beats before we ended up using this one. A friend of mine played me the Wale track which we sampled, it had this dope little intro that I knew I could flip. Once the beat was done I knew it would match our Conversations With The Greats song perfectly. Check it out!

The Next Project: 2 40's & A Stoop

Firstly, we'd like to say thank you to anybody who listened to, downloaded, or shared our music. Our PAPER CUTS ep mixtape was well received and we're happy with the what it's done so far. It was a long time coming, but now that the ball is finally rolling you can expect a lot more from us in the short future. Which brings me to what I wanted to talk about, our next project: 2 40's & A Stoop.

The title 2 40's & A Stoop was something that just popped in to my mind randomly one day. Myself (Seth) and Grafic would, and still do, grab a couple 40 ouncers of Olde English, find a nice stoop to chill at, and just hang out. The title just seemed so fitting with it's oddly catchy appeal. There was something fun about it, yet still kind of hard, and just very "us" in general. As far as the meaning... well, initially there was no meaning it just sounded cool. I can't act like there was some type of master genious to the title, but now that it's had time to resinate with us a bit, it's even more fitting than I thought. On the stoop we talk about anything from girls and girl problems, to work, to family situations, to money, to goals for our future, all in all just life shit. And that's very reflective to our subject manner in our music.

This project will be a lot longer than the first, probably somewhere around 10-12 songs. And yes there will be a few guest appearances from the likes of our homies JayKin, Jeff Spec, D-City and EpideMIC (Ink Ops) to name a few. We're hoping for a release sometime around the beginning of the new year, but you know how these things go. Regardless, it won't be long, we're working on it right now. We will still be dropping songs/freestyles in the meantime just so you guys don't forget about us! So be on the look out for 2 40's & A Stoop, and once again thank you for checking out PAPER CUTS (If you haven't yet CLICK HERE to download).
